Experience
To me, teaching is a calling rather than just a job. I hold a bachelor's degree from St. Mary's College of Maryland. I spent 36 years in the public school system as a teacher, and was very proud of myself in being able to make a difference in a student's life by being not only their teacher, but a mentor as well. It is because of these beliefs that even after retirement I continued to follow my calling by tutoring young people.I particularly enjoy teaching writing to people to help them develop an appreciation for literature and good writing and to become better writers. To me it doesn't matter what level they are at, whether they have a special gift for writing, or may need a little extra help: I like teaching all levels of writing. When I am working with students, I believe it's most important for a student to be able to see the big picture. This is particularly important with students with learning disabilities, who may need to have things broken down into small pieces so they can see how everything comes together. My ultimate goal as a tutor is to help students become lifelong learners and to be fully independent as people. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, crafting, and photography.
